NFL Rule Changes

There are three rule changes that will affect the season.

  1. Elimination of the force-out call on receivers unable to get both feet down in bounds. Unless a receiver is actually carried out of bounds by a defender, the pass will be ruled incomplete.
  2. Like college, NFL teams winning the opening toss will be allowed to defer their decision to the second half.
  3. Elimination of the five-yard facemask penalty. Now only the 15-yard variety facemask penalties will be called, which constitute obvious tugging and twisting rather than just brushing or inadvertently grabbing and immediately releasing.
