NFL Rule Changes
There are three rule changes that will affect the season.Â
- Elimination of the force-out call on receivers unable to get both feet down in bounds. Unless a receiver is actually carried out of bounds by a defender, the pass will be ruled incomplete.
- Like college, NFL teams winning the opening toss will be allowed to defer their decision to the second half.
- Elimination of the five-yard facemask penalty. Now only the 15-yard variety facemask penalties will be called, which constitute obvious tugging and twisting rather than just brushing or inadvertently grabbing and immediately releasing.
