Who will the Cowboys miss the most?

It seems like we are heading for a youth movement at best, a rebuilding year at worst.  I had no idea. I thought the Cowboys were close and just needed the motivation and culture change of the coach to be back in the mix for a Superbowl run.

Surprising to me, the Cowboys have been busy cutting veterans.  Here are the starters from last year that will not have a star on their helmet for the first game.

  • Leonard Davis
  • Andre Gurode
  • Marc Colombo
  • Roy Williams
  • Marion Barber
  • Igor Olshansky
  • Chris Gronkowski
I think the boys will miss Davis and Gurode the most. The offensive line has  me worried. Of course, with all the injuries at CB, I would have traded all of these guys for a starting CB.

Offensive Line

I have to say, I am little concerned about the boys getting rid of all of their veteran offensive linemen.  Is this a rebuilding year that no one else knows about? I’m not sure I would have turned over the roster like this if I was planning on making the superbowl this year.  Does Garrett have a five year, three year or even a two year plan?

Look at this short list of ex-Offensive Lineman that were in place during the successful 2009 season, just two years ago:

  • Flozell Adams
  • Leonard Davis
  • Marc Colombo
  • Andre Gurode

All of these guys are capable of starting on many other teams in the NFL.  There are a lot of pro-bowls from guys on that list.

Looks like Kyle Kosier and Doug Free are the last men standing from the last couple of seasons.  The other guys will be making their debut.

  • Doug Free – Starting at Left Tackle, arguably the third or fourth most important position on the team.   Not yet two full seasons as a starter in the NFL.
  • Kyle Kosier – The veteran of the group
  • These guys will be making their first ever NFL start on September 11 in NY on national television, after a lockout offseason without any work together.
  • Tyron Smith – Right Tackle – Rookie – 20-years old.
  • Bill Nagy – left Guard – 2nd Year player
  • Phil Costa – Center  – Rookie – Currently injured

Better than a lockout….

The preseason sucks.  It’s great to see the stars on the helmets out on the field, but the games do not really mean anything for a team that is not rebuilding.

I really cant watch an entire game with the same intensity that I watch regular season games.  Not even close.   I end up just checking the news the next morning hoping to see no major injuries.

I guess a preseason win against the Vikings is better than listening to news about Demaurice Smith and Roger Gooddell having dinner together talking about the lockout.
